Fly Back to Batchelor over Mount Bundy Station, Bark Hut Inn and the WWII Coomalie Airstrip.
Depart Batchelor and fly over the WWII Gould airstrip on the way to look at the historic Snake Creek Armament Depot. The Depot site provides valuable evidence of the impact of World War II on the Territory, and the remaining structures on site have a powerful visual effect.
Continue on to Adelaide River and fly over the Adelaide River War Cemetery – a sobering reminder of the impact World War II had on this part of Australia. This cemetery is the only place in Australia where WWII diggers were laid to rest, with are over 400 military burials in total.
Return to Batchelor via WWII Coomalie Airfield K5 Anti-Aircraft Battery site. Constructed 1942 and located on a ridge, it is highly significant to the Territory as a relatively intact example of a wartime gun battery position developed for airfield protection against airborne attack. The site serves as a reminder of the impact and extent of Japanese air raids on north Australia and of air and artillery operations conducted in the region during World War II.
